About the artwork
Raj’s works expressed realism and reflection of daily life. Gradually, he feels drawn towards surrealism and abstract realism due to influences from nature, emotions and mood. Deeply inspired by Rabindranath Tagore, MF Hussain, Pablo Picasso, Van Gogh, Ganesh Pyne and Satyajit Ray, his recent works depict Romanticism in different forms depending on the subject matter.
His paintings are the reflection of dreams and thoughts which are narrated as poems. It speaks for love, peace, nature, women empowerment. It also stands against war, hatred, gender discrimination and pollution. Overall the artworks depict the culture, heritage and beauty of Bengal and India with its uniqueness and unification with global culture and heritage.
About the artist
Raj Chowdhury (b. 1983, Khanyan, West Bengal, India) is a self-taught artist. He has participated in various solo and group shows including at Aurodhan Art Gallery, Pondicherry, 2019, Ivana Art Gallery, Kolkata, 2020, Alliance Française du Bengale, Kolkata, 2020, Si Bambai, Kala Ghoda, Mumbai, 2020, Ampass Art Gallery, New Delhi, 2021, Kolkata Centre for Creativity, Kolkata, 2022, and Laxmi Studio, New Delhi, 2022.
He had worked with ‘Oneness Through Art’, a multicultural unit of Aurodhan Centre, Pondicherry under renowned Art Connoisseur and former president of Alliance Française de Pondicherry, Mr. Lalit Verma and also associated with the Cultural Exchange Program under the Institute of Spanish Studies, Kolkata. Recently he has exhibited at Si Bambai at Kala Ghoda art festival and Alliance Française du Bengale.
The artist lives and works in West Bengal, India.
