About the Artists
Himangini Puri, popularly known as Himi, is a writer and choreographer. She dances about the things she can’t write and writes about the things she can’t dance. Her relationship with writing has always been informal and she lovingly refers to her poems as ‘iterations’ or ‘happenings’ because they often happen in moments of heightened emotional resolve.
Born and raised in New Delhi, she has been engaged in several Indian classical forms of the performing arts. She then went on to pursue her higher education in dance across various countries such as Singapore, England, Malta, and Spain. Her poems depict a blend of the Indian and Western worlds and narrate her experiences with people, cultures, and relationships.
She draws inspiration from the mundane and uses her vivid imagination to express her feelings. Her poetry spans diverse topics from love, sex, intimacy, and life, to the more abstruse such as outer space and horror.
Shabarish started learning percussions when he was 8 years old, and his first instrument was the Mridangam. Ever since, he has been very inclined towards Carnatic and classical music. As he got introduced to western music, he started picking up more percussions with his increasing fondness for new sounds.
An investment banker by profession, Shabarish is a man with many, many hats. He is a freelance percussionist who plays with various bands & artists such as Groovedarshan, Robusta Indica, Aanchal Shrivastava, and also continues his childhood tradition of playing for carnatic concerts (also known as kutcheris). An avid music fan, he is drawn to all sorts of music styles and his playing reflects it as well. Constantly trying to merge different genres of music, through his grooves, Shabarish is a one man rhythm section indeed.
