About the Artist
Rishiraj Kulkarni is a multi-percussionist musician from India, performing self-composed music consisting of unique and handmade musical instruments from across the globe.
Over the years Rishiraj has been working closely with amalgamating the sounds of nature along with his instruments, electronic soundscapes and sonic textures. He has two independent albums to his name Home (2021) and The Woods (2023), he
released his first independent album - Home, inspired by sounds from various artists, cultures and musical traditions.
In 2021, Rishiraj founded Svun Sounds, an online music store, with the passion of introducing unique musical instruments in India from across the globe by collaborating directly with independent instrument makers who handcraft their instrument and then further on bringing the instruments in the lives of differently abled children & hospitals.
Rishiraj continues to learn the language of music from his instruments, by making and building conversations with them. His longest relationship has been with the Tabla, an Indian classical hand percussion instrument consisting of two drums - the bass and the high.
Over the years of exploring and delving into the world of sound, Rishiraj added the Maschine to his ensemble, a hardware/software digital audio workstation birthed in Germany, comprising of pressure sensitive pads. Sampling, tweaking and infusing sounds from the nature into his music, he converses between with the sounds of organic and electronic world.
The Handpan and Rav Vast enable Rishiraj to add a completely new dimension of sound into his music, i.e. by having a melodic element. Being a percussionist and having the possibility to add melody with a very unique timbre, the instrument has opened a lot of sonic doors in his journey of music.
Rishiraj will be joined by Giri Gagan on the native American flute and vocals.
