Babička (2020) 14 mins; Czech with English Subtitles

 A young photographer's quest for the truth about her late father's past creates tension with her loving grandmother.

Adhura (2021) 20 min; Hindi with English subtitles

A drummer in a wedding band, desperate to buy a mobile for his hearing-impaired mother, goes out of the way to get some money, only to meet a tragic end.

The screening will be followed by a discussion with the filmmakers.

About the filmmakers

Sejal Purohit is Filmmaker currently working in Mumbai.

She studied Commerce and Accountancy in college but quickly transitioned into photography when she knew she wasn’t cut for the numbers. It was 3 idiots that played a big role in convincing her mother to study photography. After doing baby photography, weddings and travel photography she started working with Zcyphher as a photographer and photoshop specialist. Still looking to broaden her horizon became a creative producer to pursue her first love - films. Films helped her explore different worlds as a shy kid. Her curious eyes were always looking for the next film she could rent. She followed her intuition and went to Prague film school. The film she made here won her the Best Directing Award. A big fan of Mira Nair’s film language, Iranian cinema and slow cinema, film school helped Sejal find her voice. Mira Nair’s words, If you don’t tell your story, who will? stayed with her. She learned that visual storytelling can be used to process real life unresolved issues from her film school teacher Masa and Beth. All this helped her in finding her voice.
Post Prague she has been working as a screenwriter and working with her father’s newspaper Jagruk Times. She has worked on three feature films and currently working with production houses to develop multiple web series.
While developing her own show with fellow screenwriter and filmmaker Akanksha Dhakrey. She has also ventured into producing short films for other filmmakers and plans to producer her own short film PARVATI this year.
While broadening her horizons Sejal remains a student at heart of all things human and art. Numbers may have not worked for her, but Words truly have.


Arjun Lal graduated in Management Studies from Sydenham College, Mumbai. He joined Offroad Films and worked as an Assistant Director on numerous commercials. He later became a freelancer and continued working before going to Prague Film School from where he did his specialization in Film Direction & Screenplay Writing. During his course, he made 3 short films in Prague out of which two were nominated for Audience Choice Award and won one. For Adhura, Arjun won the Best Director award while his batchmate - Kartikeya, won the Best Cinematographer award from the alma mater.
Arjun worked as an Assistant Director (Post Production) & Line Producer (Prague) in a Bollywood film – Saina (2021). He was also the 1st Assistant Director on an upcoming 6-part untitled Amazon Original in India and is currently an Associate Director on a international feature-length documentary being directed by Sanjivan Lal which has been anchored and narrated by Mr. Boman Irani while also directing commericals in between. Meanwhile, he has completed his first feature screenplay which he intends to direct.
