Ticket - Dhrupad Recital - April 21 - 7:30 PM
About the Event
Originating in the Sam-ved, Dhrupad is one of the oldest known vocal styles of music. Dhrupad is a deeply spritual rendition of ragas, with proponents like Miyan Tansen and Baiju Bavra. Both, the Haveli form in temples and the Darbari form in concerts, can be heard as they were, more than 500 years ago.
The teaching of Dhrupad is closely tied to the guru-shishya parampara. Following this tradition, Ustad Zia Mohiuddin Dagar and Ustad Zia Fariduddin Dagar of the Dagarbani style of Dhrupad have been known for preserving the purity and spiritual aspect of the raga.
Shri Manoj Saraf and Smt Sulbha Chourasia Saraf, their disciples, carry forward this rich and majestic lineage of Dhrupad Gayaki, accompanied by Shri Sukhad Munde on pakhavaj
