बारहमासी (Barahmasi) is an amalgamation of semi-classical genres sung throughout the year just like the Periwinkle or Barahmasi flower that blooms round the year.
An enchanting curation of thumri, dadra, tappa, chaiti, kajri, hori, jhoola, ghazal, bhajan and beautiful Malwi folk tunes, Barahmasi is an interactive show featuring Kanakshree and Savni Bhatt where the mother-daughter duo explore these forms and blossom together.
They will be accompanied by Akshay Jadhav on tabla and Tanmay Mestry on harmonium.
About the Artists
Kanakshree is a well known singer from Madhya Pradesh. Endowed with a melodious voice and stunning stage presence, she is one of the most sensational artists in the realm of Indian music. Born in a traditional music family, Kanak is fortunate to be a part of the musical heritage of the great harmonium maestro Pandit Bandubhaiya Choughule as his grand daughter. Kanakshree commenced her vigorous training under the guidance of Mrs Kalpana Zokarkar, disciple of Mama Saheb Mujumdar.
She is the guiding spirit behind Kanak and laid the foundation of confidence in her. Kanak has completed her M-Phil in music with distinction from Devi Ahilya University Indore. Kanak exhibits astonishing depth of understanding in music. Her pliant, polished and seasoned voice with open Aakar, her easy and graceful glides, a meticulous adherence to the bandish, the mood and emotions expounded in raagas all beautifully mingle together to make her performance scintillating and spell binding. Her performance bears eloquent testimony to her determination, riyaaz and the training by her illustrious guru.
She is the perfect example of a traditional singer who can sing classical, light, folk as well as devotional music with equal ease. Bestowed with the gift of melody, harmony and live presence Kanak is all set to dazzle the musical scenario with the most vibrant colours of her art.
Born in a traditional musical family Savni Bhatt is fortunate to be a part of the musical heritage of the great Harmonium Maestro Pandit Bandubhaiya Choughule as her great grandfather. She is a trained Kathak dancer in the Raigarh Gharana by Dr. Suchitra Harmalkar. She commenced her training in Hindustani Classical Music at a very young age in Gwalior Gharana under the guidance of her mother and classical singer Kanakshree Bhatt.
She has completed her Sangeet Visharad in Hindustani Classical Music with distinction from Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal, Mumbai and is currently pursuing Masters in Hindustani Classical Vocal Music from the University of Mumbai. She is well versed with all the genres of singing, i.e., classical, semi classical, folk, ghazal, devotional music, etc. and is learning Light Music, composition and arrangement from Mithilesh Patankar, a renowned name in the Marathi and Hindi music industry. She is working professionally as a singer, composer, arranger and has completed a certificate course in Sound Engineering. She has released her originals on all major audio streaming platforms as an independent musician alongside playbacks for Marathi films like Rainbow, My Lek and more. To her, music is an expression of love and a representation of who she is as a person. She draws inspiration from her parents and the legendary artists she grew up listening to.
Akshay Jadhav started learning tabla from his father, Shri Ashok Jadhav at the age of 6, after which he received taleem from teachers like Pt Ramswaroop Ratoniya, Sangeeta Agnhitori, and Pt Suresh Talwalkar. He has played alongside artists like Pt Ajay Pohonkar, Vidushi Kalpana Zokarkar, Pt Ram Deshpande as well as in films, with music directors like Salim Suleiman, Vishal Shekhar and Amaal Malik.
Tanmay Mestry, has learned from his gurus Nandkishor Mestry and Shri Sudhir Nayak ji, and is pursuing his Masters in Music (harmonium) from Bhartiya Vidyapeeth, Pune.
He has accompanied Vidushi Archana Kanhere, Pt. Pradeep Dhond, Shri. Ramakant Gaikwad, Smt. Ronkini Gupta, Dr. Atindra Saravdikar and many more.
