Kumar Misal’s (b. 1994) practice is deeply rooted in his agrarian heritage. Hailing from a farming family in Kumbhoj, Kolhapur, his work serves as an evocative reflection of rural life, translating the experiences of the land and the labourer into material. Kumar earned his Master’s degree from Sir JJ School of Art, Mumbai in 2020. Misal has held a solo exhibition at Art & Charlie, and shown his work in group exhibitions including the 3rd Print Biennale India 2026 at the Lalit Kala Akademi in Kolkata. He has received the Hyundai Foundation’s ‘For Hope’ Award, the Art Incept Grant, and the Krishna Reddy Printmaking Studio Award. He has been an artist-in-residence at the Hampi Art Lab, 1Shanthiroad in Bangalore, and the Chandran Farm in Udaipur. Misal lives and works in Kolhapur
