About the artwork
Arslan Farooqi explores the interplay of sound, noise, and music in the visual realm. In his interpretations of the manuscript painting tradition from South Asia, a lived experience is made glaringly visible, one that defines the region today – religion, and violence. He questions whether the sound of bullets fired drown the loudspeaker’s chants of the maulana. Arslaan tries to present his distinctive iconography connecting the realms of ritual, custom, faith, and the sonic.
