Vhay, I am Savitribai Phule!: A play by Nandita Patkar

This theatre piece chronicles the life of Savitribai Phule, the 19th-century trailblazer who defied a world that denied women education to become India’s first female teacher. Her journey is one of immense courage, breaking barriers with every step.

Written and directed by Sushama Deshpande, it premiered in Marathi in 1989 and has since been translated into nine languages and performed for audiences nationwide and internationally.

Performed by Nandita Patkar, this English adaptation preserves and amplifies Savitribai's powerful message of education, emancipation, & social reform.
