"The sea that spared me " by Upasana Agarwal
Water as a healer, as a disrupter and catalyst. This work explores Upasana's own journey navigating various family histories linked to the sea. Descended from a line of sea navigators and pirates in Bangladesh and a father who grew up in a religious coastal town, Upasana through these works has questioned what their own relationship with the water looks like. They believe that water carries memories, and finds their own art practice is a way of reclaiming and negotiating with this ancestral history. A conversation between the old and the new, and the self that constantly appears anomalous to the existing thread of stories.
