I was always fascinated with sculptures made by Cy Twombly. I saw a bunch of them in New York MoMA few years ago. Last week I was listening to a panel discussion about John Chamberlains work and came across his Foam sculptures. That’s when it struck me that foam is doing something that I wanted to do to the grid. It stands as a symbolic material for the body(flesh) and osmosis of the grid. It also throws me a question if grid is cushioning. Another interesting observation when making these is its resemblance to marble, the way the light interacts with the foam especially the white one is very similar to that of marble. Paint as a substance can operate in two different ways. One, it creates a boundary in surfaces with the light of reflects. Other one is sculptural where the paints viscosity can create a mass and have a three dimensional presence. This sculpture explores both possibilities.
